Ingredients

  • 1½ cups fresh blueberries, slightly crushed
  • 750mL vodka
  • Two large clean bottles or jars
  • Cheesecloth or other fine strainer
  • Funnel

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash blueberries and pat dry or allow to air-dry.
  2. In a large clean bottle or jar, add prepared blueberries and vodka.
  3. Cap the bottle and gently swirl the container.
  4. Store your infusing vodka in a cool, dark place for 3 to 4 days, swirling the container gently each day.
  5. Take a taste! If you want a more intense flavor, steep it longer until you find the right balance.
  6. Carefully remove blueberries and discard.
  7. Using a funnel lined with cheesecloth, pour the infused vodka into the second clean bottle and seal.

If you can't wait (because yum! Blueberries!), use the infused vodka right away. Store what you don't use tightly sealed in a cool, dark place for one to two years. Discard when the flavor starts to fade or tastes "off."

Variations of Blueberry-Infused Vodka

Blueberry's juicy flavors bring to mind summer and dessert. You can meet those flavors or give them an unexpected twist.

  • Go with a savory, nutty blueberry vodka by adding half to a three-quarter cup of coarsely chopped almonds, pecans, or walnuts.
  • Keep things in the berry family with a cup of slightly crushed blackberries, raspberries, or hulled and sliced strawberries.
  • If you want to live out your fruit and blueberry dreams, go ahead and add a clean, whole sliced apple, peach, pear, or peeled and sliced mango. Or you can add a half to a full cup of a sliced apricot, nectarine, pineapple, or watermelon.
  • Suppose you're dreaming of a whisper of citrus? That's simple, too! Add two to three clean, whole sliced lemons or limes, or a whole orange.
  • Give your blueberry vodka a savory touch with three whole sticks of cinnamon, a tablespoon of whole cloves, a quarter cup of peeled and sliced ginger, three to four sprigs of fresh mint, or a whole vanilla bean.
  • Make things a little sweeter by adding a quarter to half cup of molasses, maple syrup, or honey simple syrup. You can keep it even more straightforward by adding a teaspoon or two of white or brown sugar.
