How to Make Lavender-Infused Vodka
We think lavender is the perfect floral flavor to add to vodka. It's not so overpowering that it's perfumy, and it has a versatile, soft flavor that plays well with other ingredients.
Ingredients & Supplies
- 4-5 fresh lavender sprigs or 2 tablespoons dried lavender buds
- 750mL vodka
- Two large clean bottles or jars
- Cheesecloth or other fine strainer
- Funnel
Instructions
- If using lavender sprigs, gently rinse and allow to air dry.
- In a large, clean bottle or jar, add lavender and vodka.
- Tightly seal the bottles or jars and give the containers a firm swirl.
- Store the containers in a cool, dark place for approximately 3 to 4 days, repeating the swirling each day.
- After several days, sample the infusing by pouring a small amount into a glass. If you want more flavor, continue to steep the infusion.
- If the flavor meets your standards, carefully remove lavender sprigs, if used, and discard them.
- Funnel the infused vodka into the second clean bottle, filtering with the cheesecloth to remove any loose lavender buds.
- Carefully seal. You can enjoy the lavender vodka immediately.
You can store unused infused vodka in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark place for approximately one to two years before the quality decreases. Take care to dispose of when the flavor starts to fade or tastes "off."
Variations of Lavender-Infused Vodka
Further develop the floral notes of lavender by adding spices, herbs, or fruits to make this unique infusion shine.
- Pair your lavender infusion with fruit by adding one or two unpeeled whole, sliced apples or pears.
- For a fruity citrus touch, include two to three whole sliced lemons, limes, or a whole sliced orange.
- Use a full cup of pitted and sliced plums or peaches.
- To add berries to the equation, toss in a cup of halved berries such as blackberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries, or strawberries.
- Herbs and spices add an earthy touch. Consider three to four sprigs of thyme, rosemary, mint, or a whole vanilla bean.
- Use nuts for an earthier taste. Add a half to a full cup of coarsely chopped almonds, shelled pistachios, or walnuts.
- Sweeten your lavender vodka by adding a half cup of honey.
