Yellowstone National Park is a popular destination for recreational vehicle (RV) travelers. Most campgrounds in the area open in late April or early May, then close for the winter at the end of September or in early October, depending on the weather. Campsites tend to book up far in advance of the season, so it's important to plan ahead and reserve your campsite well in advance of your trip. Discover some popular options for RV camping near Yellowstone, then reserve a site at the campground of your choice.
Campgrounds Near Yellowstone's West Entrance
The west entrance to Yellowstone National Park is the one closest to Old Faithful, so it's by far the most popular spot for visitors to enter the park. There are quite a few RV campgrounds near this entrance.
Buffalo Crossing RV Park
Buffalo Crossing RV Park is near the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. It's in the town of West Yellowstone, Montana, and is adjacent to the national park. All campsites provide access to Wi-Fi as well as full water, sewer, and electrical (20-, 30-, and 50-amp) hookups.
The campground has back-in and pull-through sites, clean bathhouses with hot showers, and laundry facilities. Yellowstone Trading Post, a store with a wide variety of goods and soft-serve ice cream, is also located at the campground. There is an on-site theatre that shows movies on a daily basis; campers receive discounted admission. Overnight camping ranges from $78 to $85 per night.
Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park
Also located in the town of West Yellowstone, Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park is just a few blocks from the national park's west entrance. This RV-only campground has full hookup sites with cable, Wi-Fi, water, sewer, and power (20-, 30-, and 50-amp) hookups, as well as some that offer only electricity and cable and some with no hookups. Generator use is not permitted.
The campground has several bathhouses with hot showers and on-site laundry facilities. Amenities include a playground, pavilion, and a convenience store/gift shop. Campsites with hookups start at just over $100 per night, varying by size and set-up. Rental cabins are also available.
Yellowstone Park/West Gate KOA
Yellowstone Park/West Gate KOA is 6 miles from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. They offer a variety of campsite options, from full hookup campsites with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp power, water, sewer, and cable to sites with only water and 20- or 30-amp power hookups. Sites vary in length; some are up to 77 feet long, which can be large enough can accommodate a big rig and a tow vehicle.
The campground's amenities include Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, a community kitchen, horseshoes, miniature golf, and a bathhouse. Campsites rent for an average of $65 to $92 per night. Rental cabins are also available.
Yellowstone Park/Mountainside KOA
Yellowstone Park/Mountainside KOA is 7.5 miles from the west entrance to the national park and is adjacent to Gallatin National Forest. This campground is particularly suited for big rigs, as it has some of the widest and longest (up to 105 feet long) sites near Yellowstone National Park.
The campground offers full hookup sites with up to 50-amp power, as well as access to Wi-Fi and cable television. There is an on-site snack bar and gift shop, as well as a pavilion. Campers can fish in the creek that's located beside the campground, and enjoy hiking and four-wheeler trails from the campground into the adjacent national forest. Campsites average around $70 per night. They also have rental cabins.
Yellowstone Holiday Campground & Marina
Yellowstone Holiday Campground & Marina is about a 15-minute drive from the national park's west entrance, on the north shore of Montana's Hebgen Lake. The campground has just 36 RV sites, all of which can accommodate big rigs.
The campground has restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as a camping kitchen, a data port desk, outdoor activities (horseshoes, tetherball, and volleyball), fire pits, and grills. The marina has a boat launch and offers rental fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. There is a swimming beach and shoreline fishing is allowed. Campsites range from $80 to $95 per night. Rental cabins are also available.
Yellowstone RV Park and Cabins at Macks Inn
Yellowstone RV Park and Cabins at Macks Inn is located 25 miles from the west gate of Yellowstone National Park in Island Park, Idaho. Their campsites all have full hookups with Wi-Fi, water, sewer, and 20-, 30-, and 50-amp power. They have back-in and extra-long pull-through sites, each of which has its own fire pit and picnic tables.
The campground has a playground, ping-pong table, horseshoes, camp store bathhouse, and laundry facilities. The river is a short walk away and there is a canoe/kayak/raft outfitter next door. Back-in sites are $85 per night and pull-through sites are $90. The campground also has a few rental cabins.
Campgrounds Near Yellowstone's Other Entrances
The west entrance to Yellowstone National Park isn't the only way in. The park's other gates aren't as heavily trafficked as the west one, so if you prefer to go where the crowds are a bit smaller, you may want to stay in a campground near one of the other entrances.
Yellowstone's Edge RV Park
Yellowstone's Edge RV Park is situated along the edge of the Yellowstone River. It's 35 miles north of the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park, just south of Livingston, Montana. Campers can choose pull-thru or back-in sites.
Each site has full hookups with basic internet, water, and sewer as well as 30- and 50-amp electricity. There is a picnic table at each site. The campground has outdoor game areas and guests can borrow horseshoes, volleyballs, bats, and baseballs to use on-site. There are also benches along the river where guests can sit and enjoy the view. Most sites are $73 per night; sites with concrete patios are available for $83.
Ponderosa Campground
Ponderosa Campground is in Cody, Wyoming, approximately 50 miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance. They have full hookup campsites and Wi-Fi, with pull-through and back-in sites available. Their largest sites can handle big rigs, even those with slideouts.
The campground has a convenience store/gift shop with a cappuccino bar. Amenities include a billiards table, playground, bathhouses, and laundry facilities. The campground is a pickup site for local trolley tours, river rafting adventures, and a shuttle to the rodeo. Overnight camping ranges from $50 to $75 based on site type and size. They also offer rental cabins and teepees.
The RV Park at Yellowstone Valley Inn
The RV Park at Yellowstone Valley Inn is also in Cody, Wyoming. It's about 30 miles from the national park's east entrance. This campground is part of a larger complex that includes an inn and rental cabins. It has 60 RV spots with full hookups (water, sewer, and electricity). Some sites have 20- and 30-amp power, while others have 30- and 50-amp hookups.
The sites are 60 feet long and 35 feet wide, so they are roomy enough to accommodate big rigs. The campground has a bathhouse, outdoor swimming pool, indoor hot tub, workout room, pavilion, camp store, full-service restaurant, cafe, and bar. Rates vary from $79 to around $100 per night.
Livingston/Paradise Valley KOA
Livingston/Paradise Valley KOA is about 50 miles from the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park in Livingston, Montana. The campground offers full-hookup campsites with up to 50-amp power and has Wi-Fi throughout the campground. Sites with only water and electricity are also available, as are both pull-through and back-in spots.
Some sites are 70 feet long. Amenities include a dog park, a pavilion, bicycle rentals, fishing in the Yellowstone River, and hammocks by the river that guests can enjoy relaxing in while they take in the view. Average rates range from $50 to $85 nightly.
Fireside Buffalo Valley RV Park
Fireside Buffalo Valley RV Park is 33 miles from the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park, in Moran, Wyoming. It's also just 6 miles from Grand Teton National Park, so it's a great home base for RV campers who want to visit both parks without having to relocate.
Campsites have full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity (30- and 50-amp available), along with fire rings and picnic tables. The campground has restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities, a convenience store, a gas station, a liquor store, and a full-service bar. Rates average around $105 per night.
RV Camping Inside Yellowstone National Park
There are also some RV camping options inside Yellowstone National Park, though the on-site campgrounds don't have as many amenities as the ones located outside of the gates of the park.
Fishing Bridge RV Park
Fishing Bridge RV Park is the only dedicated RV campground inside Yellowstone National Park. Located near Yellowstone Lake, the campground has 310 campsites and can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. All sites are back-in.
It has water, sewer, and electrical connections (30- and 50-amp). If you care about hookups and want to stay in the park, this is your best -- and only -- option. The campground has flush toilets, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as a camping store and sanitary dump station. There is no internet access. This campground is managed by Yellowstone National Park Lodges. Camping here costs $83 per night.
No Hookup RV Options
There are a few other campgrounds in Yellowstone where you can camp in an RV if you are willing to forego all hookups. The Bridge Canyon, Grant, and Madison campgrounds have some spots that can accommodate an RV/vehicle combination that does not exceed 40 feet. These spots are back-in only and do not have room for slideouts.
Yellowstone's Mammoth campground has longer sites, with some up to 75 feet long. These campgrounds have flush toilets, but that's it in terms of amenities -- other than the fact that these campgrounds are located in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Generators are allowed from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Overnight camping ranges from $20 to $34 per night.
