The United States Justice Foundation (USJF) is the voice of conservative politics in America's courts. From Berlin Wall memorials to Pro-Life movements, the foundation publishes studies, educates the public, and litigates cases on issues that interest conservatives of all generations.
The Basics on the United States Justice Foundation
USJF focuses on what the organization's leaders and supporters view to be justice and seeks to promote understanding of key issues that affect both political arenas and the nation as a whole. The USJF is a public interest nonprofit group, focusing on legal actions that inform the American public and promote conservative viewpoints.
The group was formed in 1979 by a group of attorneys looking to further a conservative viewpoint in the judicial system. Since around that time, the USJF has been involved in providing testimony to the U.S. Senate on Supreme Court candidates and appointees. You can also read about the USJF on their website or get involved with your town's local conservative group to learn more.
The Issues Taken On
The USJF is the conservative's response to the more prolific and well-known American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the issues the organization takes on are usually rooted in a right-wing, Republican-centered manner. From pro-life to investigations on President Obama, they have recently been impassioned about the following topics.
Gun Rights for Disabled Veterans
When proposals were made and plans were laid to limit gun ownership to people deemed "incompetent," particularly U.S. veterans, USJF stepped in. Work includes the filing of lawsuits against the Veterans Affairs office who mailed out letters detailing the policies to vets. The organization continues to examine state gun laws and how they may violate the Constitution.
Immigration and Border Protection
USJF supports extreme efforts to protect the U.S. and its borders. Recently they filed a motion to allow the enforcement of President Trump's refugee and travel ban executive order, despite protests from states and other attorneys. The group also supports state's rights to refuse allowing refugees and immigrants to enter their territory.
Definition of Marriage and Gender
The USJF is also an outspoken supporter of the "protection of marriage." When California recently got into debates over Proposition 8, which would outlaw gay marriage, the USJF was vocal in supporting this proposition. The group has also taken on smaller cases, like siding with a Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple.
More recently, USJF has taken a stand against rulings allowing transgender kids and teens to use the bathroom fitting their identified gender rather than their biological sex.
Pro-Life Message Promotion
One of the USJF's longest and most ongoing issues is abortion, or rather the elimination of it. They are active in an event known as the "Pro-Life Training Camp," in which they promote their anti-abortion messages on the San Bernardino beachfront. They also publish opinion pieces on their blog related to current events in the abortion debate.
Fundraising and Donations
The UJSF sustains itself through fundraisers and donations because it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Through its official website, you can make a donation online in any amount you wish. They allow you to choose between a onetime donation or a monthly gift. Funds contribute to the distribution of materials free to the public, legal defense in cases of public interest, and holding political candidates accountable to their conservative promises.
Make Your Opinion Count
If you are thinking of making a donation to the USJF, take the time to research properly and know what you are supporting. If you find you're personally passionate about their viewpoints, then this may be a great organization for which to exercise your philanthropic efforts.
