  4. Blend until smooth or desired consistency.
  5. Pour into prepared glass.
  6. Garnish with lime wheel.

Variations and Substitutions

Whether you're happy with keeping your frozen margarita simple or you're looking to dress it up with other flavors, consider a few of the following.

  • Use añejo tequila for a smoother margarita, or to kick things into a smokey gear, you can use mezcal instead.
  • Play around with proportions, using more lime juice for a tarter frozen margarita or extra agave to take yours to the sweeter side.
  • Add a touch of chile liqueur to give your frozen margarita a hot bite.
  • Give it a flavorful spin and blend frozen strawberries, mango, watermelon, or toss in some passion fruit juice.

Garnishes

You can stick with the salt rim and lime garnish, as is typical for a traditional frozen margarita, or explore other options. You can use sugar for a sweeter garnish or tajin for a spicy kick. If you add fruit flavors, consider using those as a complementary garnish, such as a strawberry or watermelon wedge. A dehydrated citrus wheel can create a modern-looking frozen margarita if you want to set yours apart.

About the Frozen Margarita

Frozen margaritas aren't the sugary blended cocktail that many view them to be, nor are they complicated to make. While you might be quick to reach for a margarita mix or frozen blend, making yours from scratch is as simple as making a traditional margarita with a few adjustments of the ingredients and adding in extra ice to make it nice and chilly.

A wonderful benefit of the frozen margarita is you can easily double (or triple, quadruple, however much you want) your ingredients. Since it's all going into a blender, it's easy to make up some extra for a friend or going big if you're hosting a party and want a cocktail that's ready to go in no time. No shaking or tired arms are required.

A Chilly Relief

The frozen margarita is the answer for hot summer days when you need to cool off, and the clock is ticking to 5 o'clock. Pop that booze in the blender to render that oh-so-perfect frozen concoction to pass your summer afternoon away. Or ordinary Wednesday night.
