Variations of the Blue Motorcycle Drink

There's no denying that the blue motorcycle drink will leave you on your butt, since it is quite a drink. If you don't want that much of a buzz or you want to swap around a few ingredients, these tips will get you roaring in no time.

  • If there's a particular spirit you don't care for, skip it! No one is making you sip a drink you won't enjoy, so don't feel pressure to add an ingredient you don't want. But don't skip the blue curaçao; otherwise, it won't have the same look.
  • Can you not handle the thought of blue curaçao? Well, you can omit it by adding the same amount of blue fruit punch or by adding 2-4 drops of blue food coloring and topping off with a bit of extra lemon-lime soda.
  • Pick one spirit to add some extra flavor. Vodka can be the easiest, although you can find flavored tequila and rum. Find something a bit more neutral or soft, such as citrus or vanilla. If you're a spicy person, a spicy flavor can balance out the sweetness of the blue curaçao.
  • Instead of the lime juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup, you can substitute an equal amount of sweet and sour mix or even homemade margarita mix.

Blue Motorcycle Garnishes

The blue motorcycle cocktail speaks for itself, so it's not a cocktail you'll need too much of a garnish for, BUT that doesn't mean you can't give it a little extra decorating.

  • Go wild with citrus! Add lemon, lime, and orange together: an orange wheel with a lime slice, a lime wedge with a lemon wheel, an orange slice with a lime slice!
  • Lean into the colorful look of the cocktail by garnishing it with a few raspberries on a cocktail skewer, and add some more blue by alternating those with blueberries.
  • Cherries, both maraschino and cocktail, look great for a different pop of color in this cocktail.
  • Did you go with a spicy flair? Garnish with a jalapeño coin on its own or with another of the above ideas.

The Blue Motorcycle Cocktail History

The blue motorcycle drink is part of a family tree that's quite boozy. A few prominent leaves on the family tree included the classic and storied Long Island iced tea, the colorful blue Long Island iced tea, the boozy but shorter ingredient list Adios Mother, the nutty Baltimore zoo cocktail, or even the sweet grateful dead drink. Each cocktail will pack a punch, so sip them with caution, and certainly not on an empty stomach. If you want to continue your boozy blue brew bout, then don't forget the blue bullfrog or the walk me down.

Vroom Vroom Your Way to a Tasty Cocktail

Grab your helmet and prepare to, very hypothetically, drive off into the horizon with a blue motorcycle cocktail--but from the safety of your kitchen chair or your local bar stool. Exercise caution with this boozy blast. Odds are you'll find one is the perfect amount. Otherwise, you'll be like a motorcycle yourself: too tired to stand.
